The DTA calculator within the system uses figures based on the values published by the Financial Ombudsman Service.
When you wish to use the system to calculate a DTA premium you need to select the monthly premium adjustment as highlighted above and enter in the period this adjustment will run for.
In the value box enter DTA; press the tab key and the following screen will appear.
Whether you have a single premium to calculate or several premiums to calculate, the process is the same. The client’s age at the time of taking out the plan needs to be entered along with the original term of the mortgage and the amount to be covered or protected. If you have several calculations to do, we would recommend that you complete all details to include all dates along with descriptions, as this will help speed up input.
If you have completed the date of birth and smoker status on the client details screen then these details will be pulled forward into the calculator (age is based on client’s age at next birthday). You must check that what is automatically completed is accurate and change details where necessary. Once you are happy that the details are complete, click the ‘Calculate’ button. The premium calculated will appear next to ‘Result’. To select the premium, click on OK and the premium will be inserted into the value box in the adjustment screen. To produce further figures, enter DTA in the Value box and follow the same procedure.
Due to the limited data available, calculations produced by the system will be for the period 1986 to 2000. For this reason you may see a warning message stating that a valid DTA rate cannot be provided. Should this happen, then a manual calculation will be required.
